Blending vampires, ghosts, monsters, spooky castles, dark forests, and other gothic imagery, this game feels like the best parts of Halloween distilled into a great Castlevania game. Tech issues Being a Switch exclusive definitely holds Bayonetta 3 back on a purely technical level. While the gameplay and story are great and will feel right at home with Castlevania fans, it's the game's sense of atmosphere that truly takes the cake. 1 In 2013, she was recognized by Guinness World Records as 'the most prolific video game. These highly specialized people are able to bind demonic souls with creatures to creature familiars that aid Hector throughout the game.Ĭastlevania: Curse of Darkness is an intricately woven game that gives you the best aspects of hacking and slashing while leveling up and gaining new familiars, weapons, armor, and other loot. Jennifer Hale is a Canadian-American voice actress best known for her work in video game series including Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Spider-Man, BioShock Infinite, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Curse of Darkness stars Hector, a brooding character who just so happens to be a Devil Forgemaster. Ultimately this is all conjecture until Friday.Īgain, please don't take this as a personal attack! Just wanted to put it out there. It's a real shame that the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox Castlevania game, Curse of Darkness isn't a part of the larger Castlevania discourse since this game is an absolute blast for fans of 3D action-adventure, RPGs, and Castlevania as a whole. It could be that the execution is so godawful that it renders the subtext with Jeanne moot, or something along those lines. Now, this is all written without having seen the ending. It’s four years since Bayonetta 3 was first announced and only now is it. What I want to avoid is people disregarding this interpretation of the character as not queer - because it absolutely is, regardless of who she actually ends up with. The latest Nintendo Direct has given Bayonetta 3 its first proper trailer and confirmation that it’s out next year. Put another way, if Bayo was to end up with Jeanne, would people really have a problem with the contention that she is bi coded, given her interactions with Luka? Probably not.īisexuals are quite frequently subjected to purity tests on their sexuality and sense of belonging to the queer community. This is a real problem that bisexual people have to contend with. This doesnt change, regardless of who she ends up with.īut now that she may have ended up with Luka, there will be some people who don't see that line of thought as legitimate. If you see Bayo as a bi-coded character, then you also see her as queer. Not to jump on you specifically, but this line of thought is kinda the crux of the issue: that this Bayo can no longer be seen as queer because she ends up with a man. I guess what I'm saying is that her being straight isn't a character assassination, but something else might be. However if Bayo is reduced to a damsel in distress at the end in order to "seal" that relationship, then I could understand it. Sure, it was obvious that Jeanne could be seen as coded gay, and thus Bayo could be bi and they could potentially have a relationship, but this is all more subtextual than the Bayo / Luka stuff. The first game clearly establishes that Bayo is at least interested in hetero relationships. Between Bayonetta, Viola, and Jeanne, Bayonetta 3 is a well-rounded beatdown with a diverse range of combat styles and plenty of ways to mix up how you play, ensuring that you’ll never get bored. The latter gets plenty of criticism when guys do it online, not sure why this is different. However, being that angry that a character you wanted to be gay/bi ends up straight (or just in a hetero relationship) seems as pathetic to me as being angry that a character you liked ends up queer. And a review is subjective look at how one person feels about it all. That’s how long we’ve waited for Bayonetta 3. On the one hand, an ending can absolutely ruin the game, and what feels like a character assassination can be a gut punch.
